What is happening in Syria?
Since 2011, death, sorrow, pain, and fear have overwhelmed the hearts of Syrian families as civil war ravaged the country. Living for years under dictatorship brought unimaginable heartache for millions of people, forcing many of them to flee their homes.
On December 8, 2024, the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham rebel group took control of Syria as long-time dictator and president Bashar al-Assad fled to Russia for asylum. The 13-year civil war came to an end, but the hope for peace is fragile at best. Since the overthrow, revenge attacks have taken the lives of hundreds of people. War-torn Syria is now in the hands of Ahmed al-Sharaa who played a huge role in the fall of the Assad regime. With past ties linking him to al-Qaeda, Christians in Syria fear for their safety.
What is CAM doing?
Humanitarian needs in Syria continue to be acute! By channeling your support through various contacts, CAM is able to give both physical and spiritual aid to impoverished Syrian families.
Yasmin* lived in Syria with her parents and five siblings when war broke out in 2011. Her world seemed to crumble as her father became ill and passed away, her mother struggled with health problems, and her brother was badly burned while serving in the Syrian army. Then one day, missiles obliterated their home and other buildings in their area, forcing them to seek refuge in Lebanon. While in Lebanon, our contacts visited Yasmin with food assistance and God’s love with her. This touched her heart, and she shared her deep gratitude to our contacts.
Please pray for Syria during this time of unrest.
Since 2011, more than 14 million Syrians have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety. More than 7.4 million Syrians remain displaced in their own country where 70 percent of the population is in need of humanitarian aid (UNHCR).
Millions of Syrian refugees remain in need of food and shelter. Food Parcels for Syrian Refugees enables CAM to provide food items for displaced people living in Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. If you wish to help, please click Donate to give a gift.
