A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal on Saturday, April 25.
The confirmed death toll stands at 5,000 and is expected to rise quickly by the thousands in the next few days. The quake’s epicenter was in Nepal, but it also took lives in China and India. Rescuers and family members continue to dig through rubble to look for survivors.
This earthquake will put a tremendous strain on this impoverished nation.
The United Nations said hospitals in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, and surrounding areas are overcrowded and are running out of emergency supplies and space to store corpses. Thousands have been left homeless. Most areas don’t have power and water.
CAM’s International Crisis team is researching ways to provide emergency relief as soon as possible. We will keep you posted as plans develop.
The need for food, shelter, and other necessities for Nepalese earthquake survivors is huge.
