People in Central Asia and Eastern Europe have endured decades of low incomes and faltering economies. The cost of food has skyrocketed in recent years. The ongoing war in Ukraine makes it even harder for fathers to provide for their families. Facing these challenges, needy families, lonely widows, and abandoned elderly people are deeply grateful for the gift of potatoes.

Potatoes are a staple for people in these regions. In places like Kazakhstan, people sometimes refer to the potato as their “second bread” because they incorporate it into various parts of their daily diet. Rich in nutrients and vitamins, potatoes rank as one of the world’s most important crops.

A staff member in Romania said, “Through this program, we try to bring a ray of hope to those who are desperate, and we tell them that there is Someone who has prepared a place where there will be no more pain, no more tears, and no more poverty. The only condition is that we first get to know Him and live for Him, starting here on earth. We hope that this fall, more and more people in Romania will be able to receive these potatoes, but above all, will receive the Good News of the Gospel!”

For many families in Romania, children are left in the care of their grandparents while their parents go abroad to work, thinking that  this will give their children a better future. One Romanian grandmother was delighted when the local pastor came and brought her potatoes for the coming winter!
