In the rolling foothills of Romania’s Carpathian Mountains live several impoverished families. The children of these families, several of whom are handicapped, wait eagerly for each delivery of milk received through
the Milk for Many Mouths program. Every drop is precious because many families cannot afford to buy their own milk.
Most families who receive this milk do not have the luxury of a refrigerator. They simply store the milk on their porch or in the house. The milk is sweet for the first few days, but it quickly turns sour. Once it has soured, they use it with cooked foods such as corn mush, bread, rice, or potatoes.
For many families who receive this milk, life is not easy. Mr. Pletosu, a young father of two, is no stranger to difficulties. Several years ago, he worked in Norway to earn money to build a house. But then he was diagnosed with cancer, and the money he had earned, as well as assistance from several churches, was swallowed up in hospital bills. Mr. Pletosu underwent chemo treatments and is doing a little better, but the treatments weakened him. Because he is unable to work, his wife has started working at a pastry shop, making a small income for the family. The gift of milk is a small way to lift their burden and give them joy.
Weekly milk deliveries also open opportunities for CAM’s drivers to build relationships and offer the hope of the Gospel. In some cases, these regular visits help build the needed trust to encourage children to participate in vacation Bible school hosted by the local church community. Thank you, supporters, for showing the love of Jesus to some of Romania’s most vulnerable and giving many a reason to hope!
