Project Update
As rain poured down on southern Kenya, sticks, branches, and trash carried by the rushing water accumulated along a mountain underpass. The debris slowed the water, creating a dam. At three o’clock in the morning of April 29, the water burst through the underpass and plunged down the mountainside. The unexpected surge of water ripped through low-lying villages, sweeping people, animals, vehicles, and houses along with it. Many people were never found.
Kenya has had an unusually wet rainy season, leading to numerous incidents of flooding. International Crisis is providing blankets, cooking oil, food, and Christian literature to people affected by the flooding. We also plan to rebuild at some point, using local laborers.
If you would like to help, see Flooding in Kenya on the enclosed response coupon or International Crisis on the sponsorship sheet. Our budget for this project is $100,000. If you wish to help, your support will be a blessing!
