Wednesday evening, west of Venezuela’s capital Caracas, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake shook the ground. Less than a minute later, another earthquake hit—this one measuring 7.5 on the Richter scale, and since then, at least 30 aftershocks have been reported. These back-to-back blows threw thousands of lives into an upheaval.
As of June 27, the death toll surpassed 1,400. That figure could continue rising as crews search devastated areas. The USGS said its data predicted a toll that could reach into the thousands.
Venezuela has been in a humanitarian crisis for years. Hyperinflation, corruption, and economic upheaval have created major food shortages, leaving Venezuelans at an all-time low.
How is CAM responding?
CAM is currently working through staff and contacts who are researching ways to respond. We estimate that this will be a large-scale aid project, along with the distribution of literature and Bibles. Please pray for everyone affected—whether it’s people searching through the rubble for missing loved ones or those who have lost their home and livelihood.
