A deadly earthquake hit Izmir, Turkey and parts of Greece on Friday, October 30. The tremor reached the Turkish city of Istanbul, about 200 miles northeast of Izmir.
Most of the damage lies in the city of Izmir, Turkey. Seventeen buildings collapsed while countless other buildings and homes are damaged and unsafe to enter. The quake wounded over a thousand people and killed more than 100 people. More than 15,000 people’s homes were damaged or destroyed, forcing them to live in tents until they can find other arrangements.
In the wake of this earthquake, we are working with contacts in Turkey to provide food parcels for those in need. We are also helping to supply prepared meals for people who have been impacted.
