In a restricted country, Avneet* cried to her god every day for a cure for her severe stomach pain. But to no avail. The pain plagued her for years, and all the treatments she tried brought no relief.
Not only did Avneet have physical pain, but she also met heartache. Her husband passed away several years ago, leaving her alone with her nine children, five of whom are married. Faced with the burden of widowhood and the repeated disappointment of finding no cure for her sickness, Avneet tried to end her life, convinced it wasn’t even worth living. One day, a pastor came to purchase two chickens from Avneet’s small business. During the transaction he asked after her family’s well-being and shared about the Lord Jesus Christ. Avneet became curious about Christ’s transforming power and was thrilled to hear He had the power to heal her sickness. She asked the pastor to pray for her. He did so and gave her a New Testament.
When several of Avneet’s family members and neighbors found out about the pastor’s visit, they warned her that she would not get any help from them if she continued to talk with him. Despite their warnings, Avneet started reading the New Testament, believing that Jesus could heal her. She and her four youngest children visited the local church the next week. The pastor gave her a complete Bible and prayed that God would take away all her pain.
At church one Sunday, Avneet opened her heart to the Lord and boldly decided to follow Christ. After three weeks of dedicated prayer, God completely healed her pain! She is amazed how Jesus healed her from years of agony within a month of dedicating her life to Him.
“I praise and thank the Lord Jesus for healing me and giving me the gift of salvation,” Avneet said. “Now the Bible has become my best companion. When I read it, I feel the presence of God and a great peace in my life. Today I . . . feel immense joy in my heart. I am no longer sad or disappointed with life as I believe in the real and living God who has done a miracle in my life.”
We recognize that God doesn’t always choose to heal those who are sick, and believers must surrender to His will. However, we are inspired by the unusual stories of healing that seem especially prevalent in restricted places with limited Gospel access.
